One of the better value things to do in Sydney is the Australian National Maritime Museum, which is free except for special exhibitions and tours of the navy ships. Australia has a strong historical affinity for the water and the beach, which is manifest in such activities as its surf culture, beaches swarming with weekend sun worshipers, and sailing events such as the annual Sydney to Hobart race. Even weekdays can find Port Jackson teeming with sailboats of all sizes on leisure cruises and competing in local competitions. More than just a display of boats, the Maritime Museum provides a historical overview of Australia’s love affair with water as well as some art exhibits of related regional interest. This helicopter was part of the exhibit on naval history.
