Mexico City’s Metropolitan Cathedral is the city’s most iconic structure. At least according to the Lonely Planet. And who am I to argue? It certainly is an impressive monument to the Catholic faith, both inside and out, and rivals many European cathedrals for ostentatiousness. Whenever I see these structures, though, I have to wonder if the funds used to construct and maintain them couldn’t have been put to a better, more productive use.
