Most of the larger towns and cities in Mexico (and maybe the smaller ones too) have a central square called the zocalo. The zocalo is like a public park and is often adjacent to the main cathedral. They are popular gathering spaces where people come to hang out and meet. The zocalos in the towns I’ve been through have been well maintained and busy almost every night of the week.
