A Tree in the Gardens

For the past several weeks I’ve been working on an update to my website. There’s still a few more tweaks I need to make but overall it’s generally where I want it. You’ll notice it’s a cleaner, simpler design, and with the white background I hope it to have a brighter and more welcoming feel. I’ve also updated the images in the portfolio to include more recent work. Have a look around and let me know what you think or if you see anything that needs fixing.

An apology to those of you who receive posts by email. A few emails went out last week unintentionally when I was trying to update some settings. Hopefully you didn’t mind seeing some older and repeat images. And if you do happen to receive posts by email, be sure to click through and check out the update to the website.

If you’ve never been to Africa or Madagascar and wondered what it was like, wonder no more. A short walk through the Africa/Madagascar section of the George Brown Botanical Gardens in Darwin and you can practically say you’ve been there!

Kodachrome and Lightroom

Today’s Photo

A few weeks ago I mentioned in a post about what was essentially the end of Kodachrome after the final roll had been processed at the end of 2010. Recently I came across (thanks Craig) a set of free Develop presets for Lightroom that attempt to emulate the look of Kodachrome. There’s over 20 different presets that cover the range of Kodachrome 25 up to Kodachrome 200, with a number of different grains and tones. Today’s photo uses a preset for Kodachrome 200, although I’ve added a few other minor tweaks of my own. Emulation will of course never replace the original, but if you’re yearning for that Kodachrome look, these presets should provide you with a good starting point. You can download the Lightroom presets from the X-Equals blog. And while you’re there, you may want to have a look around their site. These guys have some useful tips and information on post-processing in Lightroom and Photoshop.
