Through the Orchid

Here’s a short interview at Chase Jarvis about developing your own photographic style. I don’t know if I’ve managed to do that yet or if I’m still mimicking other photographers. I’d like to think that I’m at least adding my own stylistic elements to whatever I do.

A Flower For Your Valentine?

Ok, probably not. But if you are enjoying this blog, maybe you could share it with him or her…?

Today’s Photo

Flowers, along with beaches, are one of those subjects that are so overdone it’s hard to be original. (Actually, is there anything that isn’t overdone these days?) I haven’t succeeded in 100% originality here, but hopefully it’s unique enough to be enjoyable. And that’s as much as I can ask for. So, what do you think?

Kodachrome and Lightroom

Today’s Photo

A few weeks ago I mentioned in a post about what was essentially the end of Kodachrome after the final roll had been processed at the end of 2010. Recently I came across (thanks Craig) a set of free Develop presets for Lightroom that attempt to emulate the look of Kodachrome. There’s over 20 different presets that cover the range of Kodachrome 25 up to Kodachrome 200, with a number of different grains and tones. Today’s photo uses a preset for Kodachrome 200, although I’ve added a few other minor tweaks of my own. Emulation will of course never replace the original, but if you’re yearning for that Kodachrome look, these presets should provide you with a good starting point. You can download the Lightroom presets from the X-Equals blog. And while you’re there, you may want to have a look around their site. These guys have some useful tips and information on post-processing in Lightroom and Photoshop.

November Wallpaper

The November wallpaper is here! Hopefully this month I managed to get the calendar correct. Embarrassingly, last months calendar was WAY off, although since only one person seemed to notice and let me know, halfway through the month, apparently not many of you actually pay attention to it.

The wallpaper is available in 1280×853 and 2560×1600 resolutions. Click the image below for the smaller one; click here for the larger one.

If you enjoy this, feel free to share it with your friends and family.
