Blue Rocks, Brown River

Today’s Photo

Blue rocks, brown river. Usually it’s the other way around. However, Taroko Gorge in eastern Taiwan is famous for its multi-colored, marble-walled canyon which often has a blueish hue. The beauty of the colors and patterns created by the marble are one of the reasons this area has become one of Taiwan’s most popular tourist attractions. The brown waters are apparently normal for this region.

Inside the Pagoda

The busy folks at Craft & Vision once again have a new ebook out. (I think they try for about once a month). This one is A Deeper Frame by David du Chemin. Unfortunately I’ve been a bit busy the last few days and haven’t even had a chance to look at this one, but I’ve enjoyed almost everything I’ve read by David and can probably make a solid recommendation based on past experience. If this one is like everything else he’s written, it’s worth the 5 bucks. For the first five days only, if you use the promotional code DEEP4 when you checkout, you can have the PDF version of A Deeper Frame for only $4.

The charming Tian Feng Pagoda is 7-stories tall sitting on a hill above the Liwu River. From the pagoda, there’s great view of the river and the little village of Tian Xieng. You can climb to the top of the pagoda but after climbing to the first level, I lost the motivation to go any further.

Taroko Gorge

Today’s Photo

Here’s a nice pretty black and white from Taroko Gorge, on the east side of Taiwan. A beautiful narrow canyon carved out of granite, it’s one of the more popular and well-known destinations in Taiwan. I was there during the middle of the week and it wasn’t too bad as far as traffic and tourist congestion was concerned. But I could see how it might be a bit much if you were there on a weekend.
